The Brooklyn Dodgers tied a National League record on August 24 after using 8 pitchers during a game. The large rotation failed horribly as the first place Milwaukee Braves owned the entire bullpen for a 13 to 7 win. The Dodgers Johnny Podres surrendered 3 home runs in the fourth and Hank Aaron added a grand slam, the first one of his career. The Cardinals also tied the record on September 21 while losing 9-8 against the Cincinnati Reds.

Braves ace Warren Spahn threw the 41 shutout of his career during an 8 to 0 victory over the Cubs on September 3 setting a new National League record for left handed pitchers.
